TRAFFIC INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
VideoBloggingTips
I see that BloggerNoob’s alexa rating is in the one hundred thousands. With this being said, you must get a lot of traffic. How many views do you get to your site daily and monthly? Where do most of your views come from? Entrecard, Search Engines, or other things?
BloggerNoob
i actually fell a lot in the alexa rank. bloggernoob used to be around 55k alexa. But alexa changed it’s algorithm a few months ago. hoping to get it below 100k soon. i get between 400-800 daily visits. monthly, hmm, around 18k. Most of my traffic is via referrals. Entrecard is good, but it’s not my only referral. blogcatalog, mybloglog, digitalpoint, sitepoint, all send some nice traffic. i also have a lot small sites that send me a few clicks each. i get aroun 25 percent of my traffic from google. and around 20 percent of my traffic comes from direct hits.
VideoBloggingTips
How important do you think the use of Entrecard is to socialize with others and get inbound links to your website? Do you use other sites like entrecard to gain good amounts of traffic?
BloggerNoob
hmm. entrecard is bad for socializing and getting inbound links. it’s just good for flash traffic. entrecarder drop and run. it’s not quality traffic, but still, traffic is always a good thing. I’ve dabbled with spottt, blugrush, etc, but they all suck. and it’s usually not good to have too many widgets on your side bar. slows down your site. i got rid of all of those except entrecard.
VideoBloggingTips
I did some research about your site BloggerNoob, and realized that it has over 11,000 inbound links. Where did they all come from? Digg, Stumbleupon, BlogRolls? How long did it take you to get these links? Did you work for them, or were they naturally built overtime?
BloggerNoob
If you check my archives, you’ll notice a lot of posts. I think being busy posting and networking helps out in the links department. And as your site going up in the ranks, it’s easier to trade links. instead of asking for links, people come to you. I fiddled with digg for a bit, but not my bag of chips. stumble is good for short bursts of traffic, but not for links. the best way is to write often and write honest. people like honest. also helps if you can squeeze in some humor. Oh yeah, how could i forget. do some contests. that’ll get you links fast.
MONEY MAKING QUESTIONS
VideoBloggingTips
With all that traffic to your site, how do you make all of your money? I don’t see any AdSense on your page, but you’re obviously getting paid right? Where’s the dough come from and what’s an estimate to how much you make monthly on BloggerNoob alone?
BloggerNoob
adsense doesn’t work on MMO blogs. i think that’s the biggest misconception that noobies have. adsense works on sites that get a lot of non web savvy traffic. search engine traffic would be best. mmo blog readers are other bloggers. so they never click on adsense ads. gotta know your audience if you want to make money. most of my income comes from paid plugs and affiliate commissions. recently, i’ve been upping my private ad sales. i’m hoping to do less paid plugs when my private ad sales increase a bit more. well i made around 10k during 7 months of blogging.
VideoBloggingTips
If you make over minimum wage blogging, how long did it take you to do so? Is it realistic to say that some bloggers may be able to turn professional and quit their day job if they make as much as you do?
BloggerNoob
I personally do not think it’s possible. Making full time income solely from blogging is really hard. If you were do invest some cash and set up a lot of different types of websites, then full time income is possible. But if you think you’re going to pay the bill with one blog, you better wake up and smell the coffee. The way i see it, blogging is kinda like acting. Both have low barrier of entry. Both types of people are dreamers. Most never make anything of it. Becoming rich with your blog is about as realistic as me winning an emmy award.
VideoBloggingTips
I was reading a post at your site about how you can make 100 dollars a day blogging. In order to accomplish this task, you have to make 20 blogs, and each blog has to make 5 dollars a day. With this being said, is it possible to be successful and make over minimum wage with just one blog, or do you have to have multiple blogs to accomplish this task?
BloggerNoob
It’s possbile to make a lot of money with just one blog. Sure of course. But, only a few people are able to do it. I don’t think i could ever turn bloggernoob into a 4k/month blog. So i’d rather focus on spreading it around with other sites that require less maintanence. If i could set up 100 sites, i would. There are some sites that require no updates and make 20-40 dollars a day. I haven’t been able to do it with any of my niche sites, but i know quite a few people who have. They don’t even bother with blogging because it’s so time consuming. I do it cause it’s my baby. I started with online stuff because of my blog. So i want to keep it going.
PAGE RANK INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
VideoBloggingTips
How do you get a page rank? I see that you have one. Obviously, you have had your blog for a long time. I have heard some people have gotten a page rank in as little as 4 weeks. Is this possible? How long did it take you?
BloggerNoob
I’ll be honest with you. I don’t know how PR works. I know that it has something to do with back links, but that’s it. But u want to know a secret? None of the SEO experts know anything either. You think some nerd living in his mom’s basement knows the secret to the all might Google? Not a chance. But there are some tricks. I don’t know if PR is gained by those tricks or not. I have to experiment more to be more sure. I’ll tell you this tho, i have one site that has PR3. It’s been left on the default wordpress theme with zero posts. How did that get PR?
Any Advice?
VideoBloggingTips
For all of our fellow bloggers, do you have any advice or anything you would like to add to this interview? I know you’re a very well respected blogger, and I also know that I didn’t ask every possible question in the book, so do you have any traffic tips, money making tips, or general tips about blogging?
BloggerNoob
I think the best advice would be to get yourself some shared hosting and domain name. It’s the best investment on the net. Other then that, don’t pay for shit. Not until you understand how the blogging economy works. Be creative. Don’t try to follow your blogging heros. Try to be original. I know it’s hard to, but that’s the only way to break away from the pack. There are tens of thousands of blogs just like yours, you have to stand out. That’s what internet marketing is. Simple in theory, yet extremely difficult to carry out.
